The sport management minor makes for a fitting companion to majors in marketing, business administration, management, communication studies, and more, providing students with a broad understanding of the sport industry’s theoretical and practical aspects.
Alongside a general course teaching the principles of management and organizational behavior, this curriculum will introduce students to current best practices for sport management on different levels and in different contexts. Students will also get a primer in sport law, a vital aspect of the industry that governs athlete rights, risk management, and other important factors.
From there, you can narrow your study and career focus based on your personal goals, choosing to learn more about sport facilities and management, marketing, or finance. You’ll also enrich your understanding of the industry’s societal context through courses that explore sport history, its role in American culture, and its intersections with gender issues.
No matter where a student’s interest may lie, the sport management minor will help prepare them for interacting with the broad and fast-paced industry as a whole.
