On July 1, 2026, the University of Lynchburg welcomed Dr. Sally Coleman Selden as its 12th president, marking both a new chapter for the University and a meaningful homecoming for one of its longtime leaders.
Selden returned to Lynchburg after serving as provost and dean at The Citadel, where she led efforts to strengthen academic excellence, grow enrollment, improve student retention, support faculty, and advance the institution’s strategic vision.
Before joining The Citadel, she served Lynchburg for 18 years in a variety of academic and administrative leadership roles, including provost and vice president for academic affairs.
To the role of president, Selden brought deep institutional knowledge, proven executive leadership, and a strong commitment to student-centered decision-making, shared governance, academic innovation, and inclusive excellence.
Selden earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Virginia and a doctorate from the University of Georgia.
Sally Coleman Selden is the 12th president of the University of Lynchburg. Her presidency marks a meaningful homecoming, as she previously served the University for 18 years in a variety of academic and administrative leadership roles, including provost and vice president for academic affairs, associate provost, director of the Master of Business Administration and Master of Nonprofit Leadership Studies programs, and chair of the management program.
