Lynchburg’s professional writing minor gives students the opportunity to expand their practical, real-world writing skills. In terms of professional development, such skills are second only to job training or discipline-specific knowledge.
This minor will prepare you for careers in writing and editing or complement your studies in other fields — such as business, science, and others — that rely on written communication to disseminate knowledge and reach diverse audiences. You’ll be able to analyze different professional writing tasks and learn how to write effectively and ethically in a range of organizational contexts.

Athletics is getting a big boost from former trustee Charles “Chuck” P. Collings ’73 and his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” S. Collings. The couple’s recent gift of $100,000 is helping to establish the Men’s Soccer Endowment, which will “support the needs and operations of the men’s soccer program at the University of Lynchburg.”
As the saying goes, “it took a village” to get Shukria Rezayi ’27 from her home in Afghanistan to the University of Lynchburg for the Fall 2023 semester. But if you ask Alissa Keith ’14 MA, she’ll tell you it took “a thousand little miracles.”
At 9:41 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, the University of Lynchburg’s GiveDay total sat at $219,677. Most of the challenges and matches — everything from the Afghanistan Student Education Fund to the tennis team — were on their way to being met.
Dr. Kelly Ann Jacobson considers herself “one of those people that always knew they loved writing.” She was 5 when she wrote, illustrated, and published her first book in her elementary school library. Book two, about a teddy bear, followed in third grade.
Dr. Annette Vee, associate professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh, will give a lecture at the University of Lynchburg on Monday, March 17. The lecture, “Androids, Spirits, and Chatbots: Historicizing AI Writing,” will be held at 6 p.m. in Schewel Hall’s Sydnor Performance Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Tanisha Brewster ’26 was honored Thursday, April 17, with The Frances W. Cloyd Dining Services Student Leadership Award. The award honors the legacy of Frances Cloyd, a longtime dining services employee who was affectionately known on campus as “Mom.”
