Our Commitment to the Planet
The University of Lynchburg identifies sustainability as one of its eight Institutional Values. We believe that everyone benefits when we recognize and act upon our environmental obligations to future generations.
In early 2021, President Alison Morrison-Shetlar signed the President’s Climate Commitment to take our commitment toward sustainability to the next level. The Climate Commitment shows that we pledge to take action and exert leadership in addressing climate change within the University of Lynchburg community.

Vision Statement
We seek a sustainable future for our students and community by serving as an example for Central Virginia and beyond. We will be a sustainability leader among institutions of higher education by respecting all living things, upholding universal human rights, and advocating for economic and social justice. We strive to provide our students with the highest quality education with the lowest possible environmental impact and most beneficial social and economic effects. We strive to create a more inclusive and fair learning environment that teaches our students about the importance of caring for one another and their surrounding environment. Our commitment will be upheld through practices that look at benefiting all of society while implementing environmental stewardship and climate resilience.
