Dual Enrollment

What is the University of Lynchburg and CVCC Dual-enrollment Program?

The University of Lynchburg has a dual-enrollment application specifically for students planning to enroll at CVCC in either the Associate of Arts and Sciences (AA&S) or the Associate of Science (AS) degree program. This program allows qualified high school students who have completed or are in the process of completing their high school diploma or GED and have not completed courses for college credit since graduation to take one course each semester at the University of Lynchburg. Summer sessions are not included in this program.

Eligibility to Apply

Students are eligible to apply if they:

  • Have completed or are in the process of completing a high school diploma or GED.
  • Plan to enroll at CVCC in either the Associate of Arts and Sciences or the Associate of Science degree program.
  • Have not completed courses for college credit since high school graduation/GED.

Application Process

The application process involves two main steps:

  • Step 1: Students must apply using the University of Lynchburg Application.
  • Step 2: Submit your official high school transcripts, which are required. Students applying before high school graduation must also submit their official final high school diploma after graduation, and SAT/ACT scores should be submitted if available.

Application Deadlines

  • Fall semester: Aug. 1.
  • Spring semester: Dec. 1.

Next Steps After Applying

Once a completed application and all materials are received, the University will review the file and contact the applicant with an admission decision or if any additional items are needed. All admitted students will receive an official letter of admission by mail, along with orientation and registration information.

Taking Courses at the University of Lynchburg

  • Students admitted to the dual enrollment program can take one course per semester at the University of Lynchburg. Summer sessions are excluded.
  • Students can enroll in pre-requisite or gateway courses for their major or one other course, provided that space is available in the class and the prerequisites for that course have been successfully completed.

Course Credits and Transferability

  • Credits for courses successfully completed at Lynchburg will transfer back to CVCC and be applied to the student’s associate degree requirements.

Cost of the Program

  • Students do not pay the University of Lynchburg for classes taken through the UL-CVCC Dual Admissions agreement.
  • Students will pay the tuition charges for each enrolled course at CVCC rates, to CVCC.

Eligibility for Transfer Scholarships

  • Students who participate in this agreement will be eligible to be considered for the University of Lynchburg scholarships designated for transfer students. Upon completing their associate degree from CVCC, they will be able to participate in the transfer scholarship competition. They must submit their final CVCC transcripts to be eligible for any scholarships.

Participation in Student Activities

  • Dual-enrolled students can participate in programs and activities offered by the student activities office at Lynchburg, such as intramural sports, club sports, outdoor recreation, concerts, and comedians.
  • However, they cannot participate in fraternities or sororities, student government, varsity sports, or use the fitness centers.

Registration for Classes

After being accepted into the dual admissions program, students will receive additional information from the Academic Achievement Center regarding registering for classes and orientation.
