The University of Lynchburg’s Doctor of Medical Science program announced a new partnership with American Family Care during the latest episode of its Pulse of the PA podcast. This initiative supports the professional growth and development of American Family Care’s PAs by offering a 15% discount on Lynchburg’s DMSc program.

American Family Care, known for its accessible primary care and urgent care services, has over 400 locations, more than1500 providers, and sees 5 million patient visits per year nationwide.

During the podcast, Dr. LouAnne Giangreco, chief medical officer for American Family Care, highlighted the importance of clinician leadership, especially post-COVID-19. “It’s so critical for clinicians to be at the table where decisions are being made, so having people who are prepared to be there who can span the clinical world into the business world is really key,” she said.

Dr. Jenna Rolfs, dean of the College of Medical Science and director of Lynchburg’s DMSc program, asked Giangreco about the “why” behind American Family Care’s decision to partner with the University.

In her response, Giangreco emphasized the impact of this partnership on American Family Care’s mission.“We want to make [American Family Care] a really great place for people to work,” she said. “We want to give them the opportunities to grow in their careers as well.

“Having access to continuing education and getting their DMSc degree is really important in that space. And we really want to build a strong workforce of individuals with subject matter expertise and leadership skills to be able to help us to grow for the future.”

The partnership not only supports American Family Care’s mission to provide high-quality, accessible health care, it also aligns with the University ’s goal to prepare PAs for leadership roles.

The DMSc program offers specializations in areas such as addiction medicine, behavioral medicine, and medical education, providing a comprehensive education that prepares graduates for various leadership and clinical roles.
