Homecoming and Family Weekend is Oct. 17–20
The University of Lynchburg’s 2024 Homecoming and Family Weekend will be held from Thursday, Oct. 17, through Sunday, Oct. 20.
While the Classes of 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, 2019, and 2024 are officially in reunion, there are many events open to alumni, current students and families, faculty, staff, and the public.
Thursday, Oct. 17
Lynchburg’s 2024 Sports Hall of Fame inductees will be honored at Turner Gym from 6:30–9 p.m. Registration is closed for this event. The following teams and alumni will be inducted:
- 2024 NCEA Championship Equestrian Team
- 2024 Track and Field Distance Medley Relay Team
- Sam Llaneza ’25, NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field 1,500-meter National Champion
- Frank Csorba ’24, Men’s Cross Country/Track and Field
- Michael Releford ’14, ’17 MEd, Men’s Soccer
- Kevin Reinecke ’04, Men’s Lacrosse
- Joe Lisicky ’13, Men’s Lacrosse

Friday, Oct. 18
Hornet to Hornet, or H2H, begins at noon with lunch and a keynote address by Carter Elliott IV ’19 in Hall Campus Center’s Memorial Ballroom. Elliott’s address will be followed by a series of panel discussions, held at various locations on campus and featuring alumni from various industries.
H2H ends with a networking reception on the Hall Campus Center balcony from 4:30–6 p.m. Advanced registration is preferred but not required. Admission is free.
From 11 a.m.–2 p.m., lunch will be available for Homecoming participants in Drysdale Student Center’s award-winning Burton Dining Hall. The cost is $10 and payable at the door.
From 4:30–7 p.m., Burton Dining Hall will host the Pirate’s Bay Surf and Turf Dinner. The pirate-themed dinner will include low country boil, steak, clam chowder, mussels, and more — all for $22.50, paid at the door.
The Concert Choir will perform at Snidow Chapel at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, followed at 7:30 p.m. by a Wind Symphony and Orchestra concert at Schewel Hall’s Sydnor Performance Hall. Both events are free with open seating.
For sports fans, Men’s Lacrosse alumni face off against the current varsity team at 8 p.m. on Shellenberger Field. Admission is free.
From 8–11 p.m. a Welcome Home Reception will be held in Memorial Ballroom. The free event includes live music, light refreshments, and a cash bar.
Homecoming attendees can meet the 2024-25 men’s and women’s basketball teams and enjoy performances by Dance Works and other groups at Midnight Madness, beginning at 10 p.m. in Turner Gym. Admission is free.
Saturday, Oct. 19
The Westover Honors Class of 2028 will be inducted in a private ceremony held at 9 a.m. in Snidow Chapel. It will be followed by an invitation-only reception in Memorial Ballroom.
From 9:30–11:30 a.m., Bonner Leader Program alumni will have lunch with current Bonners in the Genworth Conference Room at Drysdale Student Center. Advanced registration is required.
From 11 a.m.–noon, a parent Q&A session will be held in the Helen Mundy Witt Room at Walker Alumni House. Parents are invited to ask questions and interact directly with University leadership.
From 10 a.m.–noon, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., will host the AKA Celebration Tea, celebrating 35 years of service to the Lynchburg campus and community. The semiformal event is open only to AKA members and registration is closed.
Check-in for those with reserved parking spots for the Homecoming Tailgate will be held from 10–11:30 a.m. at the Hopwood Hall parking lot. Tailgating spaces are sold out. Cars parked at the tailgate cannot leave until 6 p.m. Guests without vehicles may enter the tailgate at noon.
Brunch will be available in Burton Dining hall from 10:30 a.m.–2 p.m. The cost is $10.50, payable at the door.
Field Hockey plays Washington and Lee at 11 a.m. on Shellenberger Field and the Women’s Softball Alumni Game begins at 11:30 a.m. on Moon Field. Admission for both games is free.
Day in the Dell, including yard games, a petting zoo, caricatures, food trucks, and more, will be held from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. on the Dell. Admission is free.
The Homecoming Tailgate begins at noon in the Hopwood Hall Parking Lot. The bring-your-own-food-and-beverages event will include live music by The Fretwell Band and tailgate spot contests. Tailgating spots are currently sold out. Participants are free, however, to roam the tailgate without a reserved spot.
Men’s Soccer plays Washington and Lee on Shellenberger Field at 2 p.m. Admission is free.

Women’s Soccer will play Randolph Macon at 4:30 p.m. on Shellenberger Field. Admission is free.
Dinner will be available in Burton Dining hall from 4:30–7 p.m. The cost is $10, payable at the door.
The Helen Mundy Witt Black Alumni and Students of Color Networking Event will be held in the Drysdale Student Center West Room from 6:30–7:30 p.m. Named for the first Black graduate of Lynchburg, the Helen Mundy Witt Society is an alumni affinity group founded to further diversity, equity, and inclusion at Lynchburg and to bring together alumni and students of all backgrounds. Advanced registration is preferred.
There will be a free movie, “Inside Out 2,” at 8 p.m in Sydnor Performance Hall. No alcohol is allowed and snacks will be provided.
Sunday, Oct. 20
From 9–10:30 a.m., alumni are invited to the Helen Mundy Witt Room at Walker Alumni House for Coffee and Connections, where they can enjoy coffee and doughnuts and learn about alumni volunteer and engagement opportunities. Advanced registration is required.
Brunch will be available in Burton Dining hall from 10:30 a.m.–2 p.m. The cost is $10.50, payable at the door.
Roman Catholic mass will be held at 4:30 p.m. in Snidow Chapel.
Throughout the Weekend
“Of Ash and Light,” an exhibition by artist Elena Peteva, will be open in the Daura Museum of Art from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free.
The Campus Store will be open from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on Thursday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Sunday.
