During Homecoming and Parents and Family Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 21, the University of Lynchburg dedicated the Dr. Kenneth R. Garren ’07 HAA, ’20 DEd Plaza at Westover Hall in honor of President Emeritus Ken Garren, who served from 2001-20. Garren was Lynchburg’s 10th president.
The $1 million gift came from an anonymous benefactor.
Garren and his wife, Sheila, stayed after the dedication ceremony, which took place at 1 p.m., to watch the women’s field hockey match from a Westover Hall balcony, together with current President Dr. Alison Morrison-Shetlar. They also met with faculty, staff, alumni, and friends.
“Today we recognized the fabulous legacy of Dr. Kenneth Garren,” Morrison-Shetlar shared on her social media accounts later that day, along with a selfie showing the two presidents. “Congratulations!”
