The University of Lynchburg’s Alpha Psi Omega chapter and Gender and Sexuality Alliance will present the “Loud & Proud Cabaret,” Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 15-18, in Schewel Hall’s Sydnor Performance Hall.

The Thursday, Friday, and Saturday concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. and there will be a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. The public is invited and admission is free, but donations will be accepted to support student theater productions on campus.

“This show is the greatest combination of two of my biggest passions and has taken great effort from every single person involved,” said Lorelei “Lo” Mayberry ’28, a history major and theatre minor.

“I’m so proud of all of the work that everyone has put in to make something that can bring a spotlight to both the LGBTQ+ community and the theatre community on our campus. I cannot wait for us to open and hope that it makes our audience feel as happy, sad, and proud, as it does us.”

The show, which will be presented during the University’s upcoming Homecoming and Family Weekend, also celebrates LGBTQ+ History Month.

“For LGBTQ+ History Month, we wanted to take to the stage, which has long been a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, and bring light to the shows that have paved the way for LGBTQ+ performers and characters to shine before an audience,” Mayberry said.
