Dance Works, the University of Lynchburg’s dance troupe, will perform the Dance Works Spring Showcase at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26, in the Robert C. Hailey Theatre at Dillard Fine Arts Center. Admission is free and the public is invited.
The show will include several pieces choreographed by students, including ballet, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop numbers.
“There will be a senior piece, duets, trios, tons of group numbers, and even a … Rockettes-style number,” said Abby Mann Owen, Dance Works’ artistic director. “The songs range from Michael Jackson hits to Broadway classics.”
The members of Dance Works are Danielle Conley ’25, Jordan Farmer ’25, Allison Jewel ’26, Jamila Jones ’25, Emily Mills ’25, Abigail Monteclaro ’25, Ashlyn Scearce ’26, Nico Thomas ’25, Bobby Vinson ’25, and Jasmine Waller ’28.
“I have really enjoyed spending time with these students,” Owen said. “We explored many new styles of dance this year like waltz, salsa, cha-cha, and swing. We’ve worked on mastering Broadway choreography, expanded our improvisation skills, and spent a lot of time learning a Rockette-style piece.
“Several of the students challenged themselves by joining the school’s spring musical, adding more dance to their plate. These dancers have made me so proud!”
