Claytor Nature Center to hold reopening celebration on donor’s 100th birthday

The University of Lynchburg will celebrate its reopening of Claytor Nature Center on Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Claytor Centennial Celebration commemorates the 100th birthday of Boyd Claytor, a local businessman who donated Cloverlea Farm to the University in 1998.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a variety of activities, including a vendor fair, food trucks, music, and nature walks. The Belk Observatory will be open for tours from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

The University welcomes and encourages volunteers from the community to participate in the event in the following capacities:

  • Cloverlea Farmhouse tour guides
  • Nature walk guides 
  • Facilitating an interactive nature activity
  • Vendor setup assistance
  • Greeters
  • Parking attendants
  • Belk Observatory tours 

Paid promotional opportunities are available in four tiers:

Music sponsor — $600

  • One exclusive or two cosponsors at $300 each
  • Name/logo on promotional banner at gate
  • Name on yard signage at event
  • Banner provided by sponsor and displayed at band performance tent
  • Verbal recognition between sets
  • Social media recognition via Facebook and Instagram
  • Name on all printed promotional materials
  • One VIP package (exclusive only)

Petting zoo sponsor — $400

  • Three sponsorships available
  • Name/logo on promotional banner at event
  • Banner provided by sponsor displayed at petting zoo
  • Social media recognition on Facebook and Instagram
  • Name on all printed promotional materials
  • One VIP package

Special thanks sponsor — $100

  • Name on promotional banner at gate
  • Name on yard signage at event
  • Social media recognition on Facebook and Instagram
  • Name on selected printed promotional material

VIP package — $100

This package provides an upgraded experience. It includes the following for two people:

  • Reserved parking close to the event area
  • Two complimentary boxed lunches from Hopwood & LaRue 
  • Four drink tickets
  • Exclusive Cloverlea Farmhouse guided tour
  • Reserved seating under the Hopwood & LaRue shade tent 

While admission is free, parking donations will be accepted. Visitors should use the Cloverlea Lane entrance.
