University hosts ‘Seeds to Success’ workshop on Oct. 23

The University of Lynchburg’s African American Affinity Group will host “Seeds to Success: Growing Your Wealth” from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23. The event, which is described as an “after-hours entrepreneurial financial wellness workshop,” will be held in Drysdale Student Center’s West Room.

Admission is free and the public is invited.

The guest speakers for the workshop will be banking executives Alisha Childress and Jennifer Huffman.

Childress is the business development specialist at Freedom First Credit Union. She has master’s degrees in business administration and nonprofit and association management from University of Maryland Global Campus and a master’s degree in homeland security and emergency preparedness from Virginia Commonwealth University.  

She also is an adjunct professor at University of Maryland Global Campus.

Huffman is senior vice president of solutions banking at Atlantic Union Bank, Virginia’s largest regional bank. She has a bachelor’s degree in business leadership from Liberty University and is enrolled in the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.

Huffman has received the American Bankers Association’s 2023 Emerging Leader Award, Lynchburg Business magazine’s 2024 Businessperson of the Year, the Salem-Roanoke Chamber of Commerce’s 2024 Citizen of the Year, and other honors.
