The University of Lynchburg will present its annual “Night at the Movies” concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 22 and 23. “Encore! Encore! Movie Concerts in Review” will be held in Schewel Hall’s Sydnor Performance Hall. The event is free and open to the public, but all seating is reserved and tickets are required.
The multimedia show celebrates 15 years of movie-themed concerts at Lynchburg. Performers will include the Wind Symphony and Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Oeida Hatcher; the Community Big Band, under the direction of Dr. Chris Magee; vocal soloist Dr. Mark Craig; and others.
The program includes “The Magnificent Seven,” “The Cowboys,” “Suite from Henry V,” “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines,” “Bring Him Home,” World War II-era swing music, and more. “It’s the best of the best,” Hatcher said.
She added that the groups will perform “original scores from Hollywood, not college or high school arrangements,” and that the difficulty of the pieces makes it “a big deal. … The students are going to be hitting it hard and heavy” to prepare for the show.
