Taylor Morgan ’24 recently placed second in the Sherwin-Williams Outstanding Student Scholarship Award competition. The program, administered by the Council for Retail Sales at DeSales University, challenged college and university students to create an executive summary and video presentation about “the future of the retailing industry.”

Inspired by her Principles of Marketing professor, Dr. Tim Schauer, the Westover Honors Fellow was one of more than 40 students who entered the competition.

Taylor Morgan '24“I was really intrigued by all of the marketing concepts we were learning about in class, and I thought that it would be fun to try and use that knowledge to creatively envision the future of retail,” Morgan, a double major in psychological science and business administration, said.

“I also enjoy doing creative projects, so I was really excited to film and edit the video that went along with the paper.”

Morgan added that Schauer also was “very helpful in reinforcing the concepts that we learned in class, and he always makes sure that we know how the textbook information applies to the real world or marketing.”

For placing second in the competition, she received a certificate and $75 in prize money.

“Taylor’s work was fantastic,” Schauer said. “It was obvious to me that she researched the topic. Her video was engaging and was based upon substantive information that she used to predict future retail trends.”

With her many interests, Morgan said she’s not yet sure what career she’ll pursue after graduation. She said she has a “passion for helping others and finding creative ways to spread information that I learn about” and will likely pursue a master’s degree in psychology or business.

“I think the entire methodology behind marketing is so interesting,” she said. “I’m really interested in the psychological part of it as well, and how marketers use psychology to help make more effective business decisions that will appeal to consumers and actually be beneficial in the consumers’ lives.”
