Bright blue skies and a gentle breeze greeted students and families Friday morning on Shellenberger Field as the University of Lynchburg celebrated Commencement for its Doctor of Medical Science candidates.

As folks like to say at the University of Lynchburg, Thursday, May 20, was a “great day to be a Hornet.” The sun was shining, the sky blue with wispy clouds, and the air temperature was a bit like Goldilocks’s porridge: not too hot, not too cold, but just right.

Masks no longer required outdoors if maintaining safe distance
Two weeks ahead of Commencement, the University of Lynchburg has loosened its face-covering policy. Effective Friday, May 7, students, faculty, staff, and guests will no longer be required to wear masks when outside if they can maintain a physical distance of six feet.
Family affair: Grandfather, grandson to celebrate upcoming Commencement together
Blake Minnix ’21 wasn’t sure if his grandfather, whom he calls “Pops,” was serious when he first started talking about earning his bachelor’s degree at Lynchburg. “I thought he was just joking around with me,” Blake said. “It really didn’t set in until my first year, when I saw him on campus or had friends asking if I was related to him because they had classes with him.”
