Dietary Accommodations

Dining Services aims to cater to individual needs and requests. Each food tray in Burton Dining Hall is labeled with details regarding any meat products. Additionally, we offer a gluten-free station and Cafe Verde, our vegetarian section.

Our Pantry Fare section was specifically designed for students with food sensitivities and allergies. It offers foods that are free from the eight main food allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, and shellfish). While everyone is welcome to partake, guests must approach this section with a clean plate and no other food items, as even a small amount of food or beverage could contaminate an entire tray.

The equipment next to the Pantry Fare, including the microwave, toaster, panini press, and refrigerator, is also located in our food-safe zone for use by students with dietary restrictions.

Furthermore, for students with verified dietary disabilities, the University provides reasonable accommodations to ensure they can fully utilize and enjoy the University’s dining services. Accessibility and Disability Resources work with each student to determine reasonable dietary accommodations.

Halal/Kosher Foods

The University of Lynchburg is a multicultural community with a diverse body of students, staff, and visitors who have differing religious and non-religious beliefs and ethics. We are committed to ensuring that the services provided meet the needs of this diverse community.

Dining Services at the University of Lynchburg does not operate exclusively Halal/Kosher kitchens. Our kitchens also produce Haram dishes. For this reason, none of our kitchens are certified by the Halal Authority, and we cannot use the official Halal symbol. However, we strive to source Halal-certified or “Halal-sourced” meat for specific services and menu items in line with our recognition of the diverse needs of our customers.

Please ask the counter assistants for the halal/kosher status of dishes in our dining hall.
