What to Expect

Frequently Asked Questions — Answered

Yes, for the June SOAR only. Our First Flight modules will allow parents/guests to access the platform so that they can learn more about their student’s enrollment at Lynchburg.

For advising appointments, we want students to play an active role in planning their first academic semester and create a professional relationship with their academic advisor.

In addition, programming for parents is included in our June in-person program.

Students may bring up to two guests to the June program. However, on-campus lodging is not available for guests. We’ve provided a list of nearby hotels for your convenience.

Check out our parents and families website for more information.

We recommend having as much of this material submitted before your appointment. However, we also know that scores for tests or grades for classes may not be finalized when you meet with an advisor. If that’s the case, please bring a list of expected credits you anticipate transferring in.

Your advisor will work with you and this information, and may recommend scheduling a virtual follow-up appointment after that information is released to make any necessary changes to your schedule.

Students should visit their student portal to pay the orientation fee.

To be eligible to register for SOAR, students must first pay the enrollment deposit. Students who have made their deposits will receive information via their Lynchburg email account regarding SOAR.

Before attending your in-person New Student Orientation date, please submit a photo for your ID card. Visit arrival.lynchburg.edu/photo and go through the process step by step.

It’s recommended to come to your advising appointment with the following information:

  • Have your planned major in mind (and minor, if applicable)
    • If you are not ready to declare a major, consider bringing ideas for majors or topics you’d like to explore during your first year.
  • Transfer credits, including AP, IB, Dual Enrollment, and any other form of college credit you expect to be receiving.
  • Your practice or work schedule, if applicable.
  • A willingness to be open and talk about your goals!

You will be prescheduled for your first year of courses by your Academic Advisor based on the information you provide on your Schedule Preference Form. At SOAR, you’ll meet with an advisor to discuss this schedule and make any changes.

While you are welcome to view courses in MyHive and plan them on your schedule, you will need to meet with an advisor and receive approval before registering for classes. An advisor will walk you through the registration process in MyHive at SOAR.

Accessibility and Disability Resources (ADR) works with students who wish to request disability accommodations in the areas of academics, housing, emotional support animals, and dietary needs.  This process will start with new students beginning at the end of May.  It is critical for students seeking accommodations to plan for this process no less than two weeks before move-in dates.

If you are interested in receiving information or have questions, please email [email protected].
