The University of Lynchburg’s Claytor Nature Center, located in Bedford County, Virginia, will reopen to the public on Monday, Aug. 4. Claytor’s hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday — at least until the end of daylight saving time on Sunday, Nov. 2.

There is no admission fee at this time, although visitors are welcome to make a donation.

With the exception of a May 31 event that celebrated the 100th birthday of Claytor’s namesake, Boyd Claytor, the property has been closed to the public since June 2024. During its closure, improvements were made to the bridge, road, and Cloverlea Farmhouse. Work is still being done on some of the hiking trails.
