Art exhibition by University’s creative director opens at Lynchburg gallery
An art exhibition by Jawansa Hall, creative director in the University of Lynchburg’s Office of Marketing and Communications, opened Friday, March 7, at the Up Front Gallery in downtown Lynchburg.

The exhibition, “Controlled Chaos: The Art of Becoming Whole,” will be on display through Tuesday, April 1. The gallery is in the front portion of the Patricia Harrington Gallery Building, which is located at 600 Main Street and part of the Academy Center of the Arts.
Admission is free. The gallery’s hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
According to Hall’s artist statement, “Controlled Chaos: The Art of Becoming Whole” was inspired by “the layered storytelling, rich textures, and emotional depth of Romare Bearden,” an American artist famous for his collages.
Hall writes that “some works in this exhibition integrate complex narratives through overlapping imagery and tactile elements. These pieces reflect how our lives are similarly layered — built from fragments of memories, experiences, and emotions that, when pieced together, create a compelling whole.”
