If you’re ready to strengthen how you teach reading and writing across grades K-12, the Literacy Studies Certificate at the University of Lynchburg will allow you to complete requirements Virginia Department of Education K-12 Reading Specialist endorsement.
Designed for educators who already hold a master’s degree, this reading certificate builds skills in an evidence-based, structured literacy approach, so you can deliver instruction that is clear, measurable, and responsive to student needs.
You’ll learn the science of reading and how to apply that knowledge to select and use reading assessments for diagnosis, progress monitoring, and instructional planning that supports acceleration, intervention, remediation, and differentiation. The program also develops your ability to use technology to support students’ comprehension, meaning-making, writing, and research, while strengthening leadership and coaching skills for supporting literacy practice and programming in schools.
Students who complete the required sequence of courses are prepared to take the reading specialist assessment specified by the Virginia Board of Education.
