The annual Student Scholar Showcase, part of Founders Week, will be held on Wednesday, April 16, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Showcase offers students an opportunity to present their scholarly research, creative achievements, and/or service learning projects, many of which are  capstone projects.

Topics range from “The Pen is Mightier than the Sword: The Benefits of Explicit Handwriting Instruction” to “Guilty Pleasures: The Psychological Effects of True Crime Media Consumption.” Showcase presentations will be held in four formats: oral, poster, creative, and virtual.

The 15-minute-long oral presentations will be held at different times in numerous locations across campus: Schewel Hall, Hopwood Auditorium, Thompson-Polloway Hall, and Sydnor Performance Hall.

Poster presentations will take place in Turner Gymnasium from noon to 1:15 p.m.

Creative presentations will take place in Hall Campus Center’s Memorial Ballroom, on the Dell, and in the Daura Museum’s Lower Gallery. These will feature inflatable sculptures, a juried art show, paintings, and sculptures.

A full listing of times, locations, presentations, and presenters can be found here. Access to asynchronous virtual presentations can be found here.

Sommerville Scholar Alexis Eckert ’25 will give a keynote speech at 11:30 a.m. in Sydnor Performance Hall, located on the first floor of Schewel Hall. In her speech, “Lessons of an Unexpected Journey,” Eckert will tell the story of how her University of Lynchburg experience shaped her appreciation for the liberal arts.
