Registered Dietitian Services

As part of its commitment to holistic wellness, the University of Lynchburg offers a range of services designed to support the physical, emotional, and nutritional well-being of every student. Nutrition plays a vital role in this approach, and students have access to personalized support through on-campus registered dietitian services.

Whether you’re navigating food allergies, managing a medical condition, or working toward specific health goals, a variety of registered dietitians are available to meet the diverse needs and preferences of students. Referrals to the registered dietician may be done directly through HornetCare or through athletics. Students may also self-refer through either of these campus departments.

HOPE Team

While many students benefit from working with a registered dietitian, some may require additional support to address more complex challenges related to food, exercise, and body image. That’s where the HOPE Team (Help Overcoming Problems with Eating & Exercise) at the University of Lynchburg comes in.

The purpose of the HOPE Team is to provide multidisciplinary support, including assessment, consultation, education, support, and referral for students concerned with disordered eating or exercise behaviors.

The HOPE Team includes:

  • A licensed advanced practice medical provider (NP, DO, MD) to provide medical assessment, monitoring, and medication management for mental health, if appropriate.
  • A Registered Dietitian (RD) will provide nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention/plan of care, evaluation, and monitoring of students’ nutritional needs.
  • A licensed mental health professional (LPC, LCSW) to provide behavioral assessment, support, and oversight to students’ treatment progress
  • If the student is a varsity athlete, Athletic Training (ATC) provides initial identification and assessment, support and oversight of the student’s progress, and a bridge for communication regarding athletic participation and status.
