Beginning March 9, the University of Lynchburg’s Daura Museum of Art will display the work of Rabbi Avraham Loewenthal, an artist whose work is inspired by the spiritual teachings of Kabbalah, a form of Jewish mysticism. The art will be displayed in the Showcase Gallery, which is located in Gallery II.
Loewenthal is a Michigan native and a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he studied painting. He currently lives and works in Tzfat, Israel.
Jer Bryant ’03, ’10 MA, associate University chaplain, was the driving force behind bringing Loewenthal’s art to campus.
“The Spiritual Life Center was seeking opportunities to support our annual Art & Spirituality event, and Rabbi Avraham’s artwork came to mind,” Bryant said. “Kabbalah … has been a part of my life for a very long time, and I have used Rabbi Avraham’s art in my meditation practice.”
Bryant said Loewenthal’s artwork has the potential to “bring forth deep spiritual feelings within the viewer.”
