Stay on Track for Graduation
Registering for classes is a key step in your academic journey. Whether you’re a new student selecting your first courses or a continuing student planning for the next academic year, this guide will help you navigate the process smoothly.
How to Register for Classes
Your registration process depends on your student status:
New Students
- First-Year Students: You will be pre-scheduled before Student Orientation and Resources (SOAR) based on your declared major and your responses to the Schedule Preference Form (SPF). After consulting with your advisor, you may adjust your schedule.
- Transfer Students: Your academic advisor will pre-schedule you for your major courses and connect with you to schedule an appointment to finalize your course schedule.
Continuing Students
- You will register for courses each academic year with guidance and approval from your advisor.
- You may change your schedule after discussing the requested changes with your advisor.
- Summer courses are available and registration can be completed online.
- A list of available courses is published online on the Course Offerings page.
Understanding Credit Hours & Course Load
- Full-time undergraduate students must take at least 12 credit hours per semester, but taking 15–18 credit hours per semester is recommended to graduate on time.
- 120 credit hours are required to earn most Bachelor’s degrees, though some Applied Bachelor’s only require 96.
- Your academic requirements follow the Catalog from your first year, though in some cases, you may follow a later catalog.
Changing Your Schedule
If you need to adjust your schedule, follow these steps:
- Meet with your advisor to discuss changes and receive approval.
- Depending on the time of the semester, you can make the changes on myHive. If the system prevents you from doing so, fill out the add/drop form from the Registrar’s Office and obtain the required signatures from your advisor and course instructor.
- Be sure to complete schedule changes before the required deadline.
Important: Dropping below 12 credit hours may affect financial aid, housing eligibility, and athletic participation. Always check with the Registrar’s Office before making changes.
Advising & Course Planning Tools
- Explore general education, major, and elective requirements in the Catalog or Academic Success Workbook page.
- Meet with your advisor each semester to review your academic plan.
