Outdoor Adventure Summer Camp

Hosted by the University of Lynchburg Outdoor Leadership Program

Join us this summer for an unforgettable week of adventure, challenge, and outdoor fun! The Outdoor Adventure Summer Camp is designed for youth ages 9–12 to explore the outdoors, develop leadership skills, and build confidence in a supportive and exciting environment. With a different adventure each day, campers will learn new outdoor skills, form lasting friendships, and gain confidence in their ability to explore the natural world safely and responsibly.

Camp Schedule

Camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The cost is $500 per camper, and all activities are offered through the University of Lynchburg Outdoor Leadership Program. Participants may choose any of the five available camp weeks:

  • Week 1: June 15—19
  • Week 2: June 22—26
  • Week 3: June 29—July 3
  • Week 4: July 6—11
  • Week 5: July 13—17
Weekly Schedule

Monday: Welcome and Getting Started

  • Meet your group and jump into team-building games and low ropes challenges.
  • Take a break for lunch and downtime.
  • Learn the basics of Leave No Trace and head out on an ethics hike.
  • Wrap up the day by tie-dyeing your camp shirt.

Tuesday: Climbing and High Ropes

  • Discover the basics of climbing through indoor rock climbing. You will learn various techniques, participate in games, and experience the thrill of free climbing.
  • Learn how to belay safely.
  • Lunch break.
  • Spend the afternoon on the high ropes course and the zip line.

Wednesday: Outdoor Challenge Day: Caving

  • Explore caves and take on underground challenges.
  • Lunch.
  • Finish the day making paracord bracelets or creating a climbing rope craft.

Thursday: Outdoor Challenge Day: Climbing

  • Head outdoors for real rock climbing at Wintergreen, Ravens Roost, or Love Gap.
  • Lunch at the climbing site.
  • Continue working on bracelets or rope crafts.

Friday: Outdoor Challenge Day: Water Adventures

  • Spend the day on the water with rafting or a mix of stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, and fishing, depending on river conditions:
    • 0-600 cubic feet per second: Stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking downtown
    • 600-4,000 cubic feet per second: Rafting
    • 4,000 cubic feet per second and above: Stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking, unless downtown is at flood stage
  • Lunch on the river.
  • End the week with a closing celebration, group photo, and awards.
