Student Services

The University of Lynchburg provides students with essential technology resources to support academic success. From free access to Microsoft Office and Google services to campus-wide Wi-Fi and computer labs, our IT services are designed to keep you connected and productive. Whether you need help with printing, securing your network access, or choosing the right device for your studies, we’ve got you covered. Explore the tools and support available to enhance your experience on campus.

Cable TV Services

Cable TV is available in residence hall lounges. If you experience issues, contact ITR Help Desk at 434.544.8350 or email [email protected].

Technology Services

Microsoft Office

All actively enrolled students receive free access to Microsoft Office, including:

  • For PC: Access, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word
  • For Mac: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word

Accounts remain active while enrolled and are deactivated 60 days after leaving the university.

Email & Google Services

Students, faculty, and staff are provided with a University of Lynchburg email account, accessible through G Suite for Education. This includes:

  • Google Mail
  • Google Drive (unlimited storage)
  • Google Calendar
  • Google Hangouts
  • Google Sites

Important: ITR cannot recover lost or accidentally deleted files from Google Drive. Download copies of important documents to avoid data loss.

Printing Services

Each student receives a PaperCut account with a quota of 400 black-and-white pages per semester. Printing stations are available in:

  • All computer labs
  • Drysdale Student Center
  • Knight-Capron Library
  • Turner Gymnasium

Additional printers are available in first-year residence halls (paper must be provided by students).

Campus Computer Labs and Resources

The University of Lynchburg provides two types of computer labs for staff, faculty, and student use:

Open Labs
  • Contain networked personal computers, printers, and other computer equipment
  • Available on a first-come, first-served basis
Classroom Labs
  • Configured with six- to eight-foot-wide display screens and projection systems 
  • Networked personal computers on every desk
  • Scheduled classes take priority
  • If no class is in progress, the classroom lab may be used as an open lab
  • If a class begins, students and faculty are required to leave unless invited to stay by the professor

To ensure smooth access to university systems, students should have a laptop that meets these minimum specifications:

Windows Laptops:

  • Intel Core i5 processor or better
  • 8GB RAM minimum
  • 256GB storage minimum
  • Dual-band 802.11ac wireless
  • Windows 10 or 11

Mac Laptops:

  • Intel i5/i7 or Apple Silicon
  • 8GB RAM minimum
  • 256GB storage minimum
  • Dual-band 802.11ac wireless
  • macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or newer

Note: Tablets do not meet all academic computing needs and should be considered supplementary devices. An Ethernet adapter is recommended for using the university’s wired network.

Campus Network Access

The University of Lynchburg provides wired and wireless internet across campus, including in all academic buildings, residence halls, and common areas.

  • Students must authenticate to use the network. Instructions are provided at check-in and at the ITR Help Desk (Carnegie Hall, Bottom Floor).
  • Guest Wi-Fi is also available.

Account Security:

  • Keep your login credentials private
  • Always log out after using shared computers
  • Report security concerns to ITR
