Soccer player and Westover Honors Fellow Caitlin Dorsch ’20 was accepted into Georgia State University’s Criminal Justice and Criminology PhD program in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. She wanted to explore the field of criminology in greater depth.
Dorsch was also offered a graduate assistantship with GSU’s Center for Research on Interpersonal Violence. “I will have the opportunity to work with many esteemed researchers in the criminological field,” she told us. Her research focus is violence in our society: how often it occurs, and how we view it. She wants to understand why violent crime is so prevalent, and how we can change our attitudes towards it.
Dorsch credits Lynchburg with getting her there: “Without the aid and nurturing of faculty, staff, and other students at the University of Lynchburg, GSU would never have been an option for me.”
While at Lynchburg, she was also a facilitator for the One Love Foundation Escalation Workshop and was involved in the StepUp! Bystander Intervention Program.
