Major: Nursing
First-gen student and Fairfield, Virginia, native Ariel Lineberry ’22 didn’t initially plan to attend the University of Lynchburg. However, her first visit completely changed her perspective. The welcoming campus community and abundant leadership opportunities quickly convinced her it was the place she could call a second home.
“I had no intention of coming to Lynchburg until I realized how friendly everyone was,” Ariel recalls. “It instantly felt like it could easily be my second home.”
Ariel fully embraced campus life. She was a Connections leader, helping new students transition smoothly into University life. She was vice president of the Student Nurses Association and vice president of external affairs for the Student Government Association.
“When I came to campus, I saw everyone involved and wanted to be a part of their work,” she says. “Participating in campus activities and organizations is one of the best ways to integrate into the community.”
Her role in student government, specifically, has significantly shaped her college experience. Ariel says it provided a nurturing environment that allowed her to learn and grow into the leader she is today.
“Being involved and taking leadership roles has allowed me to give back to the University that has given me so much,” Ariel says. “Student government connected me with people who genuinely care about the school and its students. Without it, I don’t think I would be where I am today.”
Ariel strongly encourages other first-generation students considering Lynchburg to take advantage of its welcoming community. “At Lynchburg, you’ll find endless resources and people willing to help you with any questions you may have,” she says. “It’s a community ready to welcome anyone, with plenty of opportunities to become a leader.”
