Health-related fields are some of the most popular and fastest-growing programs at the University of Lynchburg. Our health sciences laboratories are one reason. These labs allow students to explore the human anatomy, practice patient care, and do meaningful health sciences research — all in a safe, controlled academic setting.
Cadaver Lab
We have two cadaver labs, which allow students to learn about human organs and body structures in a way they could not learn from photos or charts. This enhanced understanding of the body helps them become better medical practitioners.
Undergraduates from biology, biomedical science, exercise physiology, nursing, and other pre-health majors use a cadaver lab in Hobbs-Sigler Hall. In contrast, students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Master of Science in Athletic Training programs use the Graduate Health Sciences facility.
Central Virginia Center for Simulation and Virtual Learning

At the Central Virginia Center for Simulation and Virtual Learning, nursing students get a close-as-you-can look at working with real patients in a hospital or clinical setting. The “Sim Center” is operated under a partnership between the University of Lynchburg and Centra, the local hospital system, and includes everything you’d find at an actual hospital — patient rooms, operating room, birthing centers, emergency department, and more.
Human Performance Laboratory

The Walker Human Performance Laboratory is at the heart of Lynchburg’s exercise physiology program. In this high-tech, 1,500-square-foot facility, students and faculty do real-world research on many aspects of health, wellness, and human performance. They also provide affordable physiological performance and fitness testing for people in the Lynchburg community and beyond.
University of Lynchburg Community Health Center

The University of Lynchburg Community Health Center (ULCHC) is a student-run clinic providing free physical therapy services to uninsured, underinsured, or those with exhausted benefits in the Lynchburg area. Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students offer high-quality therapy under faculty supervision and community partnerships with local clinicians.
