*Formerly known as J-Term.
Dec. 22, 2025 – Jan. 9, 2026
Please visit the Course Catalog for a list of classes. Note: Winter courses are bundled with spring listings. In addition to searching under the spring term, use the course type filter of “winter” to better find classes.
- Admission: University admission is required. Visiting students should apply using the non-degree application and must submit approval and verification of good standing from their home colleges.
- Registration: Register online at My Hive. Registration begins Oct. 13, 2025. Undergraduate students may enroll in only one three-hour course during Winter Term (or four hours with a lab).
- Tuition payments: Tuition payments should be processed concurrently with course registration for any registration on or after Dec. 1.
- Housing accommodations: Housing for all undergraduate students closes Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, at 9 p.m. for Winter Break. Undergraduate students participating in residential-based Winter Term courses or for-credit internships located in Lynchburg must complete the “Winter Break Long Term Stay” application in the Housing portal. This application opens Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025, and closes Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025. Students may return to campus housing for Spring 2026 on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at 10 a.m.
- Scheduling and Attendance: Each three-credit-hour course equals 37.5 contact hours. Instructors will explain course attendance policies. The director of academic advising will be notified after two successive unexplained absences. Final examinations will be held on the last day of class at the instructor’s discretion — classes offered in the two-week Winter Term average four hours of instruction per day, Monday through Friday. Classes meet at the times and places indicated in the online course schedule.

Policies
All general regulations of the University governing conduct on the campus and all academic rules and requirements concerning class attendance, grades and credits, examinations, and scholarships are in full effect for the Winter Term.
All enrolled students are bound to honor high standards of conduct and to maintain the spirit of honor and integrity. The Honor Code (see The Hornet student handbook) is in effect during the Winter Term session, with the usual sanction for a violation as suspension from the University. Any student who observes a possible violation is expected to contact the professor or the Office of University Experience and Student Success.
Add/Drop Courses
During the first two class days, students may add classes. Courses dropped during the first two class days are not included in the student's permanent record.
After completing two class days but before completing seven class days, a grade of "W" will be assigned for all courses dropped during this period.
After seven class days, a student may not withdraw.
