Lecture - Mantuan's Pastorals: The Classical Heritage in Renaissance Italy and Early Modern England
Dr. Lee Piepho, Shallenberger Brown Research Professor, Sweet Briar College, will present “Mantuan's Pastorals: The Classical Heritage in Renaissance Italy and Early Modern England.”
Baptista Mantuanus (Mantuan) (1447-1516), was an Italian Carmelite reformer, humanist, and poet. He wrote over 55,000 lines of verse, and it is largely through his poetry that he became famous and influential on the cultures of early modern Europe.
