The University of Lynchburg Active Aging Program (ULAAP) is a no-cost, community-based exercise testing and exercise prescription program for older adults. Faculty-directed and student-supported, ULAAP aims to educate older adults in Central Virginia on active aging methods and practices.
ULAAP is a partnership between the following organizations:
- University of Lynchburg College of Health Sciences
- University of Lynchburg Department of Exercise Physiology
- University of Lynchburg Beard Center on Aging
- Lynchburg City Parks & Recreation
Eligibility
- Adults 50 years and older living in Lynchburg and surrounding counties
- University of Lynchburg community faculty, staff, friends, and family
- Participants must have no physician-directed restrictions on physical activity.
Services
- Education on the benefits, risks, and methods of adding physical activity and exercise when 50 years and older
- Evidence-based assessments to determine level of physical fitness (cardiovascular, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition) and functional capacity (balance, agility, power, performance of daily activity)
- Development of a tailored exercise and physical activity program that targets components of physical fitness and physical capacity while taking into account personal schedule, community resources, and individual goals. Participants will complete the program in the comfort of their home.
