University of Lynchburg’s Chief Educational Technology Officer Charley Butcher and Senior Director of Academic Initiatives and Human Resources Sandra Perez ’16 were featured in two UK-based technology publications, Technology Magazine and AI Magazine. Both publications are owned by BizClick Media, a company in Norwich, England.
The story, which was featured in both magazines, highlights the pair’s accomplishments in bringing AI technology to the University and describes how its implementation is preparing students for the future.
One example mentioned is Lynchburg’s upcoming eLevate program, set to launch in Fall 2026, which will provide incoming first-years with a new MacBook Air fitted with the M4 chip, designed for AI use.
The article also lists other accomplishments by Butcher and Perez. In March of 2025, they organized a Google for Education Summit in the University’s Schewel Hall.
During the two-day event, Google employees spoke with students, faculty, and staff about how to implement Google Workspace in their jobs and studies.
In the same month, the pair also partnered with Druid, an AI software company, to build the University’s own chatbot based on Dell, its Hornet mascot. Dell’s function was to answer questions students might have about “anything Lynchburg-related.”
The chatbot was officially rolled out in October.
“For the more mature academics at the University of Lynchburg, AI is transforming research without fundamentally changing its nature,” the article reads, adding that AI implementation speeds up processes that previously took hours or days.
