Biography
Jessica began her medical career as a Combat Medic in the military in 2001. She served in the military for 13 years, transitioning to become a Registered Nurse, working in emergency medicine and Trauma before starting her Nurse Practitioner Career in 2011 in Family Medicine. She joined the HornetCare team in 2015. Jessica is passionate about the overall health and well-being of individual patients and the University of Lynchburg Community.
Jessica has been married to her college sweetheart since 2005 and is a mother of six children. She enjoys the outdoors, women’s basketball, supporting all of her kids’ activities in sports and the arts, and volunteering at her local church in children and youth ministry.

Job Responsibilities
- Removes health-related barriers to learning, promoting optimal wellness, and helping students make informed health decisions, while advocating for their healthcare needs.
- Evaluates and treats patients as a Nurse Practitioner, ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare in the Health Center and supporting the health, learning, and higher education experience of the University of Lynchburg students.
- Fulfills the duties of the director of health services by planning, coordinating, and overseeing the delivery of patient care services to promote quality patient care within the scope of RN and NP practice and ensuring delivery of care is current and aligns with practice standards, preparing reports, goals, developing and managing budgets, updating and amending medical annual protocols, setting the standard for immunization requirements as guided by ACHA, CDC, and VDH and ensuring student compliance.
- Serves as a member of the CARE Team, Housing and Dietary Accommodations Panel, Behavioral Intervention Team, and Solutions Crew, as necessary, while overseeing the department’s compliance with confidentiality, legal guidelines, policies, and quality standards and ensuring that all medical records and other care-related documentation are up to date.
- Confirms staff and facilities comply with federal and state regulations and codes, which may include: HIPAA, FERPA, CLIA, OSHA, and the VA State Board of Health Professions.
