Major: Exercise Physiology
Minor: Sports Medicine
When Madi Shea ’22 first arrived at the University of Lynchburg from her hometown of Hanover, Pennsylvania, she knew no one on campus. But Lynchburg’s welcoming, family-like atmosphere quickly made her feel at home.
An exercise physiology major with a minor in sports medicine, Madi was drawn to Lynchburg’s small class sizes, beautiful campus, and abundant opportunities. These factors enhanced her undergraduate experience and paved the way for her next big step: pursuing a Master of Science in Athletic Training at the University of Iowa.
“Coming to Lynchburg, I didn’t know anyone, so participating in activities outside the classroom really helped me connect with students and faculty,” she explains. “Being involved gave me the connections and community I needed to succeed.”
Madi emphasizes the importance of engaging in campus life through leadership opportunities, honor societies, or domestic study away programs. These experiences not only enriched her college years but directly contributed to her achieving her dream of attending graduate school.
“Every activity I’ve participated in has helped me reach my goals and will continue benefiting my career,” Madi says.
She also encourages first-generation students to take full advantage of Lynchburg’s resources, highlighting specialized programs such as the Alpha Alpha Alpha Honor Society for first-generation college students.
“Lynchburg gives first-gen students all the resources they need to accomplish anything they want,” she adds. “There are so many different ways to get involved. It’s truly a place where everyone can find their home.”
