Experience

Since his solo debut at BlackRock Center for the Arts, Kyle has traveled throughout the states and across the ocean to Beijing, where he assisted and performed in the International Schools of China Choral Festival.

While attending University of Lynchburg, Kyle received many awards for his research: In 2011, Dean’s Award for Qualitative 1st place, and 1st place in the School of Communication and the Arts for his research presentation, Don’t Make It Up: Improvise!, in which he discussed lesson plans for implementing jazz improvisation into a public school music curriculum. In Spring 2012, Kyle won 1st place in the School of Communication and the Arts for his Student Scholar Showcase presentation, Let’s Make Some Noise! The Sounds of Today, in which he discussed modern notation and extended techniques for the saxophone and performed his own composition. Kyle was also awarded the Helen Wood Award for Music Performance.

During his tenure at University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA), Kyle was a member of the uncsaX Saxophone Ensemble. As well as premiering a number of new works, the group performed with U.S. Ice Skating Champion, Jeremy Abbott, live on NBC during the 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. Also while at UNCSA, Kyle was a part of the award winning Atchara Saxophone Quartet — winning 1st place in the North Carolina MTNA Chamber Music Competition, and 2nd place in the Region 6 MTNA Chamber Music Competition in Tampa, Florida. Kyle was also a member of the Tzyra Saxophone Quartet, premiering many new works such as Numbers That Are Pleasant Together, a collaboration between composers Nick Karr and Oliver Glynn; Nocturne for My Country by Peyton Clifford; and Psalm 69 for Soprano and Saxophone Quintet by Zachary Mackey.

Kyle has performed in masterclasses for Susan Fancher, Adam McCord, violist Lila Brown, Army Field Band Saxophone Quartet, and Matt Albert of Eighth Blackbird. Recently, Kyle has performed with Lynchburg Symphony, University of Lynchburg Wind Symphony, Lynchburg Community Jazz Band, and The Vosbein Magee Big Band.

Currently, Kyle serves as Adjunct Professor of Music at University Lynchburg and holds degrees from University of Lynchburg and UNCSA. Kyle’s primary instructors are Harry Farmer and Grammy award winning artists Taimur Sullivan and Robert Young.
