The event includes an interactive Q&A session where you can ask about her writing process and inspirations, followed by a book signing. Crystal Wilkinson, a recent recipient of a Writing Freedom fellowship and former Poet Laureate of Kentucky, is the award-winning author of several works, including the culinary memoir "Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts" and the poetry collection "Perfect Black." She has received numerous accolades, including an NAACP Image Award and an O. Henry Prize. Currently, she teaches creative writing at the University of Kentucky. Her upcoming memoir, "Heartsick," will be released by Crown.

Schewel Lecture: Bill Ferriter
Memorial Ballroom, Hall Campus CenterLectures & SeminarsLongtime educator Bill Ferriter will give the annual Rosel Schewel Lecture in Education and Human Diversity at the University of Lynchburg on Thursday, March 12. The event begins at 7 p.m. in Hall Campus Center’s Memorial Ballroom. Admission is free, and the public is invited. In his lecture, “Teaching, Learning, and Human Judgment in an Age of Artificial Intelligence,” Ferriter will discuss how AI can support teaching and learning, including lesson planning, differentiation, assessment, feedback, and student learning. His focus will be on thoughtful, ethical, and creative use of AI.

Shumate Lecture: Brian Recker
Snidow Chapel Lynchburg, VA, United StatesLectures & SeminarsLocation: Snidow Chapel Date: Monday, March 16, 2026 Time: 7 p.m. Former evangelical pastor Brian Recker will speak at the University of Lynchburg’s Snidow Chapel at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 16. The event is part of the annual Jennie Cutler Shumate Lecture and is free and open to the public. Recker is the author of “Hell Bent.” The book, according to Recker’s website, takes “an honest look at scripture and reveals what has been true all along: Hell isn’t a real place, and God’s universal love is radically inclusive, in this life and the next.” Before the lecture, Recker will have lunch with students in the East Room from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m and dinner with key stakeholders in the West Room from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information about this lecture or future lectures, contact the Spiritual Life Center at [email protected].
