Limits on gatherings and continued adherence to physical distancing protocols require that each graduate will be permitted to invite only two ticketed guests. There will be no exceptions to this policy.
Graduates will soon receive details via email about how to reserve guest tickets.
Directions and Maps
Please visit the travel and maps section of our website for maps, transportation options, and more.
During Commencement, nearby accommodations may be difficult to find. Make sure to book well in advance. The Lynchburg Office of Economic Development and Tourism provides a comprehensive list of hotel and lodging options. Their website also includes a calendar of local events, information about historical places of interest, and dining and shopping options.
Guest parking will be available on and around campus on a first-come, first-served basis. Campus Safety and Security will be directing traffic and guiding guests to available parking. The main entrance of the University will serve as the point of entry for all parking, including accessible parking and drop-offs. There will be signage, volunteers, and security personnel available for guidance.
Receiving your Diploma
All diplomas will be certified mailed within four to six weeks following Commencement. As the day draws closer, we will give you several opportunities to update your address or let us know the best place to mail your diploma.
EMTs and a first-aid station will be available at both Commencement ceremonies. At other times, Campus Safety and Security and Lynchburg EMS will be available for assistance by calling 434.544.5555.
Inclement Weather Plan
The University will make every effort to hold Commencement outdoors — rain or shine. Only severe weather (thunder, lightning, or other dangerous conditions) will bring the activities indoors to Turner Gymnasium. A livestream will be available on the Commencement website.
If the weather on Commencement morning is questionable, the decision to remain outdoors or move inside to Turner Gymnasium will be made by the President by 5:30 a.m. At that time, we will announce whether the activities will remain outside and on-time, or move forward with another plan. Please check back for more details.
Weather announcements/changes will be posted to the University website and social media channels.
