By Air
Lynchburg Regional Airport (LYH), located only minutes from campus, offers flights with US Air Airways. Airports in Charlottesville, Roanoke, and Greensboro, NC are also all within a two hour drive.
By Train
Amtrak provides rail service to the City of Lynchburg. The station, which is only a few miles from campus, is located at 825 Kemper Street, Lynchburg, VA 24501, 434.847.8247.
By Bus
Greyhound bus lines also service the City of Lynchburg at the Kemper Street station, 825 Kemper Street, Lynchburg, VA 24501, 434.846.6614.
By Car
Driving Directions
The City of Lynchburg is accessed by two major routes – US 29 which runs north and south, and US 460 which runs east and west.
The University is on US 221, which runs north and south and is known as Lakeside Drive.
Route 29 from the north:
- At Gainesville, Virginia, follow Route 29 South toward Lynchburg (approximately 125 miles or about 3 hours).
- At Amherst, Virginia, take Route 29 South-Lynchburg/Danville (exit veers left) and drive approximately 17 miles to Route 210 West.
- Exit right on Route 210 and travel approximately 2 miles, then turn left onto Route 29 South Business.
- Cross the James River and continue on Route 29 South 4 miles to Route 501 North. (Routes 29 and 501 are also known as the Lynchburg Expressway.)
- Follow 501 North (not 501 Business) 4 miles to the intersection with Route 221 North/Lakeside Drive (stoplight).
- Go straight through this intersection onto Old Forest Road. Turn right to follow Old Forest Road (stoplight).
- At the next stoplight turn right onto Lakeside Drive, and the entrance to campus will be on the left.
Route 29 from the south:
- Follow Route 29 North, Business to Lynchburg. (Do not take the 29 North/Charlottesville exit.)
- Pass the Lynchburg Airport on your left. Continue on Route 29 North Business; you will pass a strip mall on your left with Target, another mall, and the River Ridge Mall entrance on your right at a traffic light.
- After the River Ridge Mall entrance, take the second right exit ramp to Route 501 North and continue about 4 miles to the intersection with Route 221 North/Lakeside Drive.
- Go straight through this intersection onto Old Forest Road. Turn right to follow Old Forest Road (stoplight).
- At the next stoplight turn right onto Lakeside Drive, and the entrance to campus will be on the left.
Route 460 from the east or west:
- Exit Route 460 at Candlers Mountain Road.
- Follow the signs to Route 501 North (River Ridge Mall will be on your left, and Wells Fargo Bank will be on your right).
- Take the right exit ramp to 501 North. Follow 501 North about 4 miles to the intersection with Route 221 North/Lakeside Drive.
- Go straight through this intersection onto Old Forest Road. Turn right to follow Old Forest Road (stoplight).
- At the next stoplight turn right onto Lakeside Drive, and the entrance to campus will be on the left.

During certain times of year, like homecoming and commencement, accommodation can be more difficult to find. Make sure to book well in advance if you are visiting during these times.
