Appointment Types
Appointments are 30 minutes long. If a student needs more time, they may need to adjust the appointment time, altering it from 30 minutes to 60 minutes if the tutor is available
Face-to-Face
Students meet in Wilmer Writing Center (Hopwood 4) with a tutor for up to 30 minutes.
Online
Students meet synchronously (live) online with a tutor for up to 30 minutes. Students chat online with a tutor, either through WCONLINE or Google Docs and Google Meet. Keep in mind that we are using Eastern Standard Time.
E-Tutoring
Students should select an available e-tutoring appointment and then upload their papers to WCONLINE. During the appointment, the e-tutor will review the student’s paper, and then feedback related to higher-order concerns (content, use of evidence, organization, etc.) will be sent via email. An e-tutor can usually review 5 pages (double-spaced) per appointment.
If a student’s paper is longer than 5 pages, the tutor will need more time. Thus, the student should consider altering their appointment time from 30 minutes to 60 minutes if the tutor is available. E-tutors typically address two grammatical issues (if time permits) and then send online resources to help writers improve their skills. This appointment occurs during the time the student has selected, but it is not a synchronous appointment. Thus, the student does not have to be available during the appointment time since the tutor reviews the work alone and sends feedback to the student.
Please remember that e-tutors do not edit, and unless we are told otherwise, students’ professors are emailed a summary of what occurred during the appointment.
