Alton L. Wilmer Writing Center

About Us

The Alton L. Wilmer Writing Center is here to support all University of Lynchburg students, faculty, and staff in improving their writing skills through a range of tutorial services. Tutors are University of Lynchburg students selected for their writing and communication skills.

Options for appointments include one-to-one meetings, online tutoring, and E-support and guidance. You can make an appointment using our online booking system.

Our tutors assist with all levels of writing, from remedial to advanced, in all fields. They are trained to assist at all stages of the writing process (planning, organizing, revising, and final editing), and their goal is to teach you to take charge of your writing and produce clear and effective prose.

Type of Appointments

Face-to-Face

Students meet in Wilmer Writing Center (Hopwood 4) with a tutor for up to 30 minutes.

Online

Students meet synchronously (live) online with a tutor for up to 30 minutes. Students chat online with a tutor, either through WCONLINE or Google Docs and Google Meet. All appointments use Eastern Standard Time.

E-Tutoring

Students should select an available e-tutoring appointment and then upload their papers to WCONLINE Students do not meet directly with a tutor but will be given feedback and guidance on the paper submitted. Feedback related to higher-order concerns (content, use of evidence, organization, etc.) will be sent via email.

An e-tutor can usually review 5 pages (double-spaced) per appointment. If a student’s paper is longer than 5 pages, the tutor will need more time and the appointment should be adjusted to 60 minutes.
