New Student Checklist
Welcome to the University of Lynchburg! To make your transition to life at Lynchburg as smooth a transition as possible, we offer programs and events specifically for you.
Get ready for the University of Lynchburg in six easy steps:
After paying your reservation deposit, you will receive an email with your advisor’s name and contact information. This information will be sent out in December. You should contact your advisor to discuss your class schedule with them.
Make sure you have sent your final transcripts from all previous institutions and if you’re a transfer student review your transcript evaluation to make sure you do not enroll in courses you do not need to take.
Before you meet with your advisor:
- Review your transfer credit evaluation and have it with you. You should receive this from the Registrar’s Office.
- Become familiar with the academic catalog and the course requirements for the major(s) in which you are interested.
- Come prepared with any questions you may have regarding your major, career interests, internships, etc.
In addition to helping you plan your schedule, your advisor can:
- Help you create a long-term plan for graduation
- Tell you about major-specific clubs, organizations, and other opportunities
- Advise you about opportunities for internships, research, or study abroad programs
- Help you explore post-graduate education and career opportunities
After you talk with your academic advisor, you can register for classes online at MyHive.
You will receive instructions on how to register online from your academic advisor. If you have any questions about online registration, please call 434.544.8218.
Please note: If a class you want is closed, speak to your advisor. Your advisor may suggest alternatives that will still help you progress along in your program.

We look forward to meeting you and all of the other new students who will be joining us for the spring semester at the January Student Orientation! January orientation is just for students and we will not be offering a parent/guest track.
Registration for orientation will begin at 8:30 a.m., with orientation beginning at 9 a.m. Additional information will be sent to students leading up to the event.
At orientation, you will meet with campus offices, faculty, and staff, and learn about Lynchburg’s academic policies and procedures. You’ll also meet and interact with your Link Leader or Connection Leader, an upper-class peer mentor, as well as your new classmates!
