The University of Lynchburg’s Wind Symphony and Orchestra, directed by Dr. Oeida Hatcher, will present its annual holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, December 5 and 6, in Schewel Hall’s Sydnor Performance Hall. Tickets are free and available now.
University dedicates E. Stewart Coleman Gallery, Crank Plaza
The University of Lynchburg dedicated two new spaces on Thursday evening, Oct. 24, the E. Stewart Coleman Gallery and the Crank Plaza. A ceremony marking the occasion was held on the new plaza, which is located in front of Daura Museum of Art.
Argentine students tour D.C. embassy, have Q&A with staff
A group of Argentine University of Lynchburg students, accompanied by Aaron Basko, Lynchburg’s vice president for enrollment, marketing, and communications, visited the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Oct. 10.
Curtain Call to give ‘hometown crowd’ preview of upcoming NYC show on Nov. 15
Curtain Call, the University of Lynchburg’s musical theater ensemble, will perform a cabaret-style show at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, in the Robert C. Hailey Theatre at Dillard Fine Arts Center. The public is invited. Tickets are $10. The concert, Curtain Up Writers Workshop New York Cabaret, is a dress rehearsal and fundraiser for an upcoming performance at 54 Below, one of New York City’s premiere cabaret clubs, on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
Area high school students exhibit art at Dillard Fine Arts Center
The 2024 High School Invitational Exhibition, featuring artwork by area high school students, is currently on display in the Lobby Gallery at Dillard Fine Arts Center. Schools represented include Altavista Combined School, New Covenant School, and Amherst County, Campbell County, E.C. Glass, Heritage, Jefferson Forest, Liberty, and Nelson County high schools.
Hornet to Hornet reimagined for 2024 Homecoming
For this year’s Homecoming Weekend, held Oct. 17–20, the University of Lynchburg reimagined Hornet to Hornet, or H2H, transforming it into a daylong professional conference. The free event began at noon on Friday, Oct. 18, with lunch and a keynote address by Carter Elliott IV ’19. Elliott, who majored in history and political science at Lynchburg, said prior to the event that “coming home” to Lynchburg “is something I’m always eager to do.”
Thornton Reading to feature Melissa Scholes Young, author of ‘The Hive,’ ‘Flood’
Novelist Melissa Scholes Young will read from her work at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The reading, sponsored by the Richard H. Thornton Endowment in English, will be held in Hall Campus Center’s Memorial Ballroom. Admission is free and the public is invited.
Homecoming and Family Weekend is Oct. 17–20
The University of Lynchburg’s 2024 Homecoming and Family Weekend will be held from Thursday, Oct. 17, through Sunday, Oct. 20. While the Classes of 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, 2019, and 2024 are officially in reunion, there are many events open to alumni, current students and families, faculty, staff, and the public.
DPT program gets new treatment tables for student-run clinic
A $10,000 grant from the Titmus Foundation and an $8,780 grant from the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation, the Faye Marcum Mifka Fund, the Jeff and Sandra Wilson Fund, and the Robert R. Bowen, MD Foundation Fund have funded the purchase and replacement of treatment tables for the University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
Director of Lynchburg’s Center for Innovative Leadership honored by Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals
Dr. Roger Jones, professor emeritus and director of the University of Lynchburg’s Center for Innovative Leadership, was honored by the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals, or VASSP, with its Frank E. Flora Lamp of Knowledge Award.
