The music minor at Lynchburg is designed for students with a passion for music who want to deepen their understanding of music theory and history or reach the next level as a performer. Regardless of your major, this minor will help nurture and enrich your musical repertoire.
The curriculum begins with an introduction to music theory and aural skills, providing a solid foundation in the basics of music and its structure. Then, courses in diatonic harmony and intermediate aural skills train your ear further, while piano courses serve as a lab to apply the concepts you’ve learned.
The study of music history and literature forms a crucial part of the program, giving you insight into the evolution of music over different periods and across cultures. You’ll explore significant works, styles, and trends in music history and examine their socio-cultural contexts.
The program also opens up options for you to hone your talents in applied lessons on your instrument of choice or in one of Lynchburg’s ensembles: orchestra, jazz ensemble, wind symphony, concert choir, handbell choir, or choir union — each allowing you to gain performance experience and foster teamwork skills.
