- Apply to the University of Lynchburg and get accepted.
Students must major in an undergraduate major that leads to teacher certification in Virginia. University of Lynchburg offers biology education, chemistry education, earth science education, elementary education, English education, health/physical education, history/social science education, mathematics education, music education (vocal/instrumental), Spanish education, and special education.- Submit your official high school transcript.
- Official SAT or ACT scores are not required. Students are welcome to submit test scores, if available, but those scores will not impact an admissions decision. (Lynchburg school codes: SAT: 5372; ACT: 4368)
- Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
- Submit the Call Me MISTER application and additional documentation:
- Two letters of recommendation. Please submit all recommendation letters to Irene Foster via email at foster_i@lynchburg.edu or by mail to University of Lynchburg, College of Education, Leadership Studies, and Counseling, Call Me MISTER Program, 1501 Lakeside Dr., Lynchburg, VA 24501-3113
- One from a teacher, guidance counselor, or principal from your high school.
- One from a person who can express your involvement in the community and/or potential for entering the teaching profession.
- Two essays:
- “Why I Want to Teach,” which will address your motivation for entering the teaching profession and the contributions you hope to make to the profession and to the community as a teacher.
- “How do you believe the Call Me MISTER program will benefit you as a student?”

- A signed statement certifying that you are a student from an underserved, underprivileged, or economically disadvantaged background or area.
- After acceptance to the University of Lynchburg, and after all Call Me MISTER application materials have been submitted, an interview will be scheduled. During your day on campus, you will interview with multiple University, College of Education, Leadership Studies, and Counseling, and academic program representatives.
