What's more fun than watching stuff fizz and foam in the laboratory? Understanding why it happens! Chemistry students get an inside look at matter and how chemical reactions occur.
You'll get hands-on experience with modern instrumentation that helps us understand and quantify chemical phenomena. We offer a major (either a BA or BS degree) and minor in chemistry.
What Will I Study?
The BA major is designed for students intending to work in chemical laboratories, planning to teach, and for pre-professional students. The BS offers a more rigorous curriculum for students wishing to continue their study of chemistry at the graduate level.
Our curriculum is highlighted by several key courses and experiences. As a sophomore-level major, you'll develop your understanding of chemical research and instrumentation in our CHEM 241 Research Methodology course.
You'll have the opportunity to explore chemical research with our faculty through collaborative research projects as well as in upper-level laboratory courses. And your student experience in chemistry at LC is capped by the senior seminar course and either an internship in chemistry or a senior research project conducted with faculty.
In addition, BS majors present their senior research at the Tri-College Chemistry Consortium meeting in the spring of their senior year.
What Kind of Job Can I Get?
Our chemistry major prepares you for a job or graduate school in areas such as:
- Veterinary medicine
What Are Some of Our Graduates Doing?
- Quality Control Chemist, Teva Pharmaceuticals
- Laboratory Analyst III, Abbot Laboratories
- Ph.D. student, Duke University
