“When I was 18, I thought I knew which direction my career would lead me. But after four years of a liberal arts education, I realized what I really wanted to do. If I hadn’t attended Lynchburg, I would not have been exposed to such a wide range of academics and would not be working in the field I am today.”
Rob Wittstadt’s ’07 journey from Lynchburg to Hollywood is a testament to passion, adaptability, and impactful storytelling.
During his time at Lynchburg, Wittstadt pursued a dual major in psychology and business and played on the men’s lacrosse team.
A pivotal moment came in his final semester when Wittstadt enrolled in a film history class, igniting his passion for storytelling and redirecting his trajectory toward the TV and film industry.
Following graduation, Wittstadt wasted no time in pursuing his newfound passion. He relocated to San Diego, seizing opportunities behind the scenes in TV and film, showcasing his willingness to embrace change and pursue his dreams.
Throughout his journey in the entertainment industry, Wittstadt has demonstrated versatility and adaptability, wearing many hats from his early days as an assistant on FX’s Terriers to his role as a writer for S.W.A.T. He also worked on other television shows like Timeless, The Get Down, and Mad Dogs.
“It’s been a hustle,” he said. “I ended up staying busy out there [in Hawaii] for years, working on movies and TV shows on set, everything from production assistant to location scout or accounting clerk.”
Through his work on S.W.A.T., Wittstadt leverages his platform to address important social issues, such as gun violence in schools. His dedication to storytelling with depth and sensitivity underscores his commitment to making a positive impact through his craft.
His journey exemplifies the transformative power of following one’s passion. As he continues to make strides in the entertainment industry, his alma mater celebrates his achievements and legacy, inspired by his dedication to storytelling and positive change.
