Prosthetics 101: First Steps
Optimizing Pre-Prosthetic and Early Prosthetic Care for People who have Lower Extremity Amputation
Designed to update the practicing clinician, this course will provide the contemporary principles of excellent care for people who have lower extremity amputation. The prosthetic care continuum will include initial amputation and post-surgical recovery, the “first steps” on the prosthesis, and the return to functional independence.
Information on current prosthetic components, optimizing socket fit, pre-prosthetic care and prosthetic gait training will be provided. Collaborative, patient-centered care will be emphasized using patient models and scenario-based health care interdisciplinary team interactions to optimize patient performance.
