Experience
Noémi Szigeti Lee was born and raised in Romania, where she began her musical studies at the age of six. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Gh. Dima Music Academy of Cluj, Romania. She received her Master of Music degree in piano performance at the University of Alabama where she studied with Dr. Bruce Murray, former Director of the School of Music. She also served as a graduate teaching assistant in piano and music theory at the University of Alabama.
Among her awards, Mrs. Lee has received third prize in the Romanian National Competition “Meserii”, and in the Chautauqua Concerto Competition; and was the winner of the University of Alabama Concerto competition. She was a finalist in the Brevard Concerto Competition. Mrs. Lee has performed recitals in the United States and Europe and has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Cluj, Romania, and at the University of Alabama. Mrs. Lee was a featured performer with the Ashland (Ohio) Symphony Orchestra in a production of Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of Animals, and with the Lynchburg (Virginia) Symphony Orchestra in March of 2010 playing Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto. She has performed with the University of Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra in December of 2012, presenting George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and in April of 2016 Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto; and with the James Chamber Players in April of 2013, bringing to the audience Johann Sebastian Bach’s Piano Concerto in D Minor. She has studied with Rebecca Penneys, Imreh Rohmann, Dan Grigore, Boldizsar Csiki, and Ilona Janky, and has participated in master classes with Earl Wild, Lee Luvisi, Malcolm Bilson, and Richard Glazier, among others.
Mrs. Lee has lived in the United States since 1997. She has taught music theory and sight-singing classes at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio; piano at the Center of Music and Arts in Wintersville, Ohio; and she was the music director of the First Christian Church in Steubenville, Ohio.
Mrs. Lee has taught piano as an adjunct instructor and served as staff accompanist at Randolph College and Sweet Briar College. She has taught music classes at The Virginia School of the Arts, where she was also staff accompanist. Mrs. Lee also served as the music director at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church. She currently teaches piano as an adjunct instructor at University of Lynchburg and maintains an independent studio. Mrs. Lee is an active performer in Lynchburg, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician.
