Dr. Jeremy M. Welsh serves as the Dean and Chair of the School of PA Medicine and professor of PA Medicine with primary responsibility for vision, innovation, and school structure. Welsh is the founder of the nation’s first Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) program for PAs. Welsh also serves as the Chief Innovation Officer, Executive Director of Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, and Senior Associate Dean for the College of Health Sciences. He serves as a Medical Examiner in the region. Welsh is a native of Syracuse, N.Y. Prior to entering PA school, he worked as a firefighter and EMT for South Onondaga Fire Department.
Welsh also serves as the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) as part of a community partnership with Community Access Network (CAN) The CAO at CAN develops, implements, and evaluates the overall clinical quality and delivery model in accordance with the goals of CAN. The CAO is responsible for promoting and implementing best teaching practices in clinical care.

Welsh was awarded a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Emergency Medicine, a distinction earned by meeting license, education, and experience requirements and then passing an exam in the specialty. Welsh is also a certified higher education professional (CHEP).
Welsh was awarded the designation of a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of PAs. The designation was established by AAPA in 2007 in order to recognize the exceptional contributions of PAs to the profession through professional achievement, leadership, professional interaction, learning and community service.
