Post 9/11 Eligibility Chart
Individuals serving between 90 days and 36 months of aggregate active duty service will be eligible for a percentage of the maximum benefit as follows:

For veterans eligible for less than 100% of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, the Yellow Ribbon Program does not apply.
Under the Post 9/11 GI Bill you may receive:
- A tuition and fees payment (paid directly to the school) not to exceed $17,500 per academic year based on your eligibility.
- A monthly housing allowance based on the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for an E-5 with dependents. (This is paid to the student. Students are responsible for room and board payments. You may use your BAH for room and board payments or make alternate arrangements). The amount for the ZIP code 24501 is $1,185 per month;
- An annual book stipend of $1,000 paid proportionately based on enrollment;
- You may also receive a one-time rural benefit payment of $500 if you reside in a county with six persons or less per square mile (as determined by the most recent decennial census) AND
- Either physically relocate at least 500 miles to attend an educational institution or
- Travel by air to physically attend an educational institution if no other land-based transportation exists
Restrictions
This benefit is payable only for training at an Institution of Higher Learning (IHL) (See comparison chart for more information). If you are enrolled exclusively in online training you will not receive the housing allowance. If you are on active duty you will not receive the housing allowance or books and supplies stipend. This benefit provides up to 36 months of education benefits; generally benefits are payable for 15 years following your release from active duty.
